VINTAGE FRENCH COPPER ROASTING PAN, TRAY, TIN, ROASTER, GRATIN DISH,
BAKING TRAY, 36x23cm, HGR VERBEELEN ANTWERP, MADE IN FRANCE - BY
MAUVIEL? - FRENCH KITCHENALIA

Selling our collections (hoards) of mostly French vintage items that have been acquired over many years until finally we have no room for more!
Part of our French copper collection, this is one of several we got at a flea market at Reims in the Champagne region.
It’s a well used professional standard roasting pan marked H G R VERBEELEN ANTWERPEN and MADE IN FRANCE.
VERBEELEN is a restaurant and hotel supply wholesaler in Antwerp, Belgium, founded in 1947 by Henri Verbeelen and still operating.
I’m advised this pan was manufactured by Mauviel for supply to VERBEELEN for the following reasons:
The stamp is an oval cartouche with the words HGRVERBEELEN ANTWERPEN and the design is very similar to Mauviel’s own oval cartouche stamp and those it used on its pieces stamped for others such as Crate and Barrel and Dehillerin.
This alone strongly indicates that Verbeelen sourced copper from Mauviel but additionally the Made in France stamp is also associated with Mauviel:
Mauviel used a two line oval shape MADE IN FRANCE mark with the edges of letters clipped as if to fit inside the oval and the point of the M not reaching the baseline.
All that said, there is no Mauviel stamp so this is listed as query Mauviel?

It’s a quality piece with copper riveted brass handles and what I think is a traditional tin lining that is very worn but just about intact.
Probably dating to the 1990s and originally used in a professional kitchen, it’s now worn but very sound and functional.
It also makes a great addition to a vintage French copper collection or decorative piece of French kitchenalia…
In good vintage condition with wear but no damage - please examine photographs carefully for condition.
The copper surfaces are in good sound condition with some wear, staining, knocks and scratches - see photos.
NOTE: The lined interior is very worn and stained but just about intact. There are some scratches down to bare copper and although, in my opinion, this is still usable it is likely to need re-tinning in the future - see photos.
The brass handles have strong copper riveted joints with no looseness or movement.
Marked as described above next to a handle.
Measures approximately:
36 cm long to the pan edges, 41 cm handle to handle,
28 cm wide,
4.5 cm tall to the pan edge, 9 cm to the handle top,
about 2 mm thick,
weighs about 1.4 kg.
